'No compromise with insurgents; talks welcome' Tuesday, January 16, 2007 12:00 [IST]
New Delhi: In a strong message to militant outfits ahead of
his visit to Assam, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh yesterday (Jan 15, 2007) said
there will be no compromise with insurgents taking recourse to violence but
left the doors open for talks with any group that abjure violence.
"The Centre is firm in its resolve to work with the people and has to
ensure that terrorist groups do not succeed in their nefarious designs," Singh
told reproters on his way back from the Philippines.
This is the message to the people of Assam, said Singh who undertakes a
visit to Assamn where recent violence by ULFA had claimed 70 lives.
