2 BSF personnel injured in firing by Pakistan Rangers Wednesday, January 17, 2007 03:59 [IST]
Jammu:
"Two BSF personnel, including an officer, were injured in cross-border
firing along Indo-Pak border here early today as the force foiled an
infiltration bid supported by cover firing from Pak Rangers," a BSF
spokesman said.
A patrol party of BSF found militants trying to infiltrate at the Matkola
border outpost in Jammu
district at around 0240 hours and the ultras fired at the security personnel,
he told sources.
The militants were supported by firing from Pakistani Rangers but the
infiltration bid was foiled, he said.
In the exchange of fire, one sub-inspector, Avinash Chandar, received bullet
injuries in his chest while another jawan, Prasad, was also injured. Both of
them have been admitted to military hospital in Jammu.
Asked whether the incident was a violation of 2003 ceasefire, the spokesman
said Pakistani Rangers also fired from their positions across the border and
the situation is being monitored.
Inspector General (IG) BSF frontier S C Vaid rushed to meet commander of the 18
corps to apprise him about the situation, the spokesman added.
