Britain assures removal of trade hurdles with India Saturday, January 20, 2007 01:23 [IST]
Mumbai: Britain's
Chancellor of Exchequer Gordon Brown yesterday(Jan 19,2007) assured his
government's full cooperation in removing trade barriers with India.
Links between the financial services sector of both the countries are growing
and the two governments have a very important role to play to strengthen
bilateral ties, Brown, widely tipped to succeed Tony Blair as Britain's Prime Minister, told a
conference on financial services sector organised by ICICI Bank here.
Brown, along with a UK trade
delegation, visited ICICI
Bank Towers,
a bank release said.
Addressing the conference, ICICI Bank MD and CEO K V Kamath laid down the
challenges that the rapidly growing Indian economy is facing.
"Some of the challenges faced by India are inclusive banking,
modernisation of financial infrastructure, poverty alleviation and growing
demand for skilled and qualified manpower," Kamath said.
