Al Qaeda warns against US troop increase in Iraq Tuesday, January 23, 2007 04:08 [IST]
Washington: Ayman
al-Zawahiri, the number two in command of Al Qaeda, warned the US in an online video that sending additional
troops to Iraq
would result in consequences worse than anything you have seen.
"Aren't you aware that the dogs of Iraq are pining for your troops'
dead bodies?" he was quoted as saying Monday in a transcript of the video
on terrorism analyst Laura Mansfield's website.
The video appears timed to coincide with President George W.
Bush's State of the Union address Tuesday in which he is expected to continue
to seek support for his new strategy in Iraq.
Bush plans to send an additional 21,500 troops to Iraq in an
attempt to secure the country from rising sectarian violence. His plan has been
harshly criticised by Democratic members of Congress and some members of Bush's
own Republican Party.
