Assam: 2 killed in CISF firing in Sibsagar district Wednesday, January 24, 2007 02:35 [IST]
Guwahati: Two persons were killed in firing by CISF
personnel near an oil installation in upper Assam's Sibsagar district, a senior
police official said today (Jan 24, 2007).
The two, who were travelling on a motorcycle, were asked to stop at Galeky
around 11.30 pm last night by a patrolling CISF party but when they did not
halt, the two were fired upon by the security personnel suspecting them to be
ULFA militants, Superintendent of Police Shyamal Prasad Saikia told sources.
The two died on the spot, Saikia said adding, he was rushing to the area and
only after investigations would he be able to ascertain whether the two were
insurgents or civilians.
"Meanwhile, security in the Galeky area had been intensified following the
killing as the local people there were claiming that the two were students and
a tense situation could prevail there," official sources added. |
