Nithari case, A'bad madarsa rape rock UP assembly Wednesday, January 24, 2007 04:08 [IST]
Lucknow: The Nithari serial killings and the Allahabad madarsa rape
incident today rocked the Uttar Pradesh Assembly with the Opposition forcing
repeated adjournments and Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav accusing it of 'playing
politics over dead bodies'.
Agitated over rejection of their demand for a discussion on the twin issues,
the opposition members staged a dharna in the well of the house and also before
the office of Speaker Mata Prasad Pandey.
They shouted anti-government slogans and did not allow the Speaker to come out
of his chamber, which resulted in repeated adjournment of the house.
The Chief Minister also made an attempt to pacify the opposition members but
they remained adament.
The members relented only when the Speaker allowed them to make a mention of
the two incidents in the Vidhan Sabha.
Leader of the Opposition Lalji Tandon alleged that the authorities were trying
to shield the real culprits and implicating innocent people.
BSP leader Swami Prasad Maurya alleged that a Samajwadi Party MP from Allahabad was involved in
the madarsa rape incident and demanded a CBI inquiry into the matter.
Congress leader Pramod Tewari also demanded stern action against the culprits
and erring policemen for allegedly delaying medical examination of the victims.
The Chief Minister rejected the allegation that there was any attempt to shield
the culprits but remained non-comittal on handing over the matter to the CBI.
