Canberra: A strong earthquake
measuring 6.7 degrees on the Richter scale occurred in the ocean south of Australia today
(Jan 30, 2007)
The quake was in a remote area and no casualties or damages
were expected, said the US Geological Survey.
The earthquake took place at 14.54 p.m. (0454 GMT), 10 km
below the seabed at 855 km west of Macquarie
Island, nearly 2,200 km
south of here.
