'Pakistan probing foreign hand in terror attacks' Tuesday, January 30, 2007 04:58 [IST]
Islamabad: Pakistan
President Pervez Musharraf today said authorities were investigating the
possibility of involvement of foreign elements in the recent spate of terrorist
attacks in the country.
"We are trying to find out who is behind these attacks and the causes. We
are trying to find out if foreign hands are behind these attacks," he told
reporters before leaving on a two-day visit to Indonesia
and Malaysia.
"People involved in these attacks were misguided people who didn't
understand Islam," Musharraf said adding Pakistan had to show patience in
the face of terrorist attacks.
"We are trying to unearth these elements. The nation must also show
patience and be united to face these attacks. The Law Enforcement Agencies are
also pro-active," he said.
The Pakistan
President said there was a need for the nation to face the terrorist elements
with courage and if the people stayed united they could defeat them.
In the last five days, there have been at least five incidents of suicide
bombings and rocket attacks on Shia Moharram processions.
Curfew has been imposed in the town of Hungu
after rockets were fired at a procession and two persons were killed.
Fourteen people were killed in Peshawar
on Saturday when a suicide bomber blew himself up in a congested locality of
the city near a Shia mosque. |
