DPA

Washington:A classifiedreport looking forward to the next 18 months in Iraq,to be submitted to the US Congress Friday, describes a deteriorating situationlargely out of UScontrol, the Washington Post reported.

The report, National Intelligence Estimate, says inter-Iraqiviolence is the largest problem in the war-torn nation and posses the largestthreat to US interests, the newspaper reported.

The Post reported that the intelligence document does notconclude whether Iraq'sincreasing sectarian violence has reached the level of a civil war. It alsodoes not focus heavily on Iran, despite frequent assertions by Bush that Iranhas become increasingly involved in Iraq.

The National Intelligence Estimate was submitted toPresident George W. Bush on Thursday. The newspaper based its report oninterviews with unnamed sources with knowledge of the document.

The document comes as Bush pushes forward with a plan tosend an additional 21,500 troops to Iraq in an attempt to quell theviolence. Bush's plan has come up against strong opposition from Democrats, whocontrol the US Congress, and from some members of his own centre-rightRepublican party.
