BHEL bags Rs 39billion contract from MPG contract

New Delhi: Power equipmentmajor Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL) has bagged Rs 39 billion contract forsupply and installation of main plant package to generate 1,500 MW power in Maharashtra, taking the total order book of PSU over Rs200 billionin a single year.

The order placed by Maharashtra State Power Generation Company Ltd (MAHAGENCO)is for one 500 MW unit at Khaperkheda Thermal Power Station (TPS) expansionproject and two 500 MW units at Bhusawal TPS expansion project, BHEL said in astatement today (Feb 6, 2007).

These units, slated for synchronisation during the 11th Plan, would add 36million units every day to the grid on commissioning.

With this, BHEL's power sector order book has crossed Rs 200 billion mark in asingle year, it said.

Khaperkheda and Bhusawal TPS are already equipped with four and two BHEL-builtunits of 210 MW each respectively.

The company is presently executing orders for the main plant package for four250 MW units for MAHAGENCO, two each at New Parli and Paras TPS expansionprojects.

"BHEL has fully established state-of-the-art technology for manufacturingthermal sets up to 500 MW rating and has the capability to manufacture sets upto 1,000 MW rating for power projects, suited to Indian conditions, usingIndian as well as imported coal," it said.

So far, BHEL has bagged 47 orders for 500 MW rating sets of which 27 have beencommissioned.

"The company also plans to further increase its capacity to 15,000 MW andhas taken steps for upgrade and introduction of new technologies to producethermal power equipment with 800 MW sets and above," it added.
