Cauvery decision: K'taka Govt holding all party me

cauveryBangalore: KarnatakaGovernment is holding an all party meeting today to decide on the future courseof action on the award of Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal.

Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy, who has been guarded in his response to thetribunal's award of 270 tmc ft to the state, is meeting leaders of all partiesin the evening.

The situation in Bangalore and the sensitivedistricts of Mandya, Mysoreand Chamarajnagar was normal since yesterday afternoon when the muchanticipated award came out.

Barring stray protests in Mandya district, police said the situation wasnormal. It was business as usual in Bangalorewith no signs of disruption in normal life in the morning.

A committee to "safeguard" the interests of farmers in Mandyadistrict, the epicentre of Cauvery agitations, is meeting later in the day tochalk out its course of action.

Schools and colleges declared a holiday today as a precautionary step. SomeKannada organisations have called for a bandh on February eight to protest thetribunal's award.

Policemen are keeping a close watch on the situation in Bangaloreas also in Mysore,Mandya and Chamarajanagar districts.

More than 16 years after its constitution, the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunalgave its final verdict yesterday under which Tamil Nadu will get 192 tmcft ofwater from Karnataka.

Karnataka has threatened to go to court against while political parties in thestate reacted sharply calling the verdict a "raw deal" to theirstate.
