ahmedjadWashington: The possibilityof an American attack on Iranwas 'very low', Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has said despite thebitter stand-off with the US,but warned that any such move will be 'severely punished'.

"Us? Fear? Why should we be afraid? First, the possibility is very low.And we think that there are wise people in the USwho will stop such illegal actions," the Iranian leader, who has lockedhorns with Washingtonover his country's controversial nuclear programme, said to sources.

"But our position is clear. Our nation has made it clear that anyone whowants to attack our country will be severely punished," Ahmadinejad said.

With the US blaming Iran for the spiralling violeNce in Iraq, Ahmadinejad alsodisputed the account of one of the Iraqi officials that he had said that asmany as 52,000 suicide bombers are ready to be unleashed.

"Did I say that?I think that you should check your source, because peoplesay different things. One of the Interior Ministry officials of Iraq said that all of these terrorists are doneby American forces and that was anofficial, and was, in fact he had aposition, an official position in Iraq," he said.
