Violence abates, tense peace prevails in Indore

Indore:"Peace prevailed in the city today as curfew was lifted in four areas andrelaxed for two hours in seven other violence hit localities to allow women tomake necessary purchases in seven other violence hit localities," police said.

As many as 163 persons were rounded up for their alleged involvement in riotingthat injured seven persons yesterday, Deputy Inspector General of Police(Indore) Madhu Kumar Babu told sources.

Curfew was lifted in Raoji Bazar, Sadar Bazar, Central Kotwali and Sarafa areas where prohibitory order under Section 144were still in place, he said.

"Curfew restrictions were relaxed for two hours in seven localitiesincluding Chhatripura, Pandarinath and Malharganj areas,"he added.

The situation remained peaceful and women turned in large numbers to buyessential goods, Additional District Magistrate Rameshwar Gupta said.

Examination hall tickets of students were being considered as curfew pass toallow them to appear in tests being conducted in some schools and colleges, hesaid.

Violence errupted after two groups pelted stones at each other in Bombay Bazararea, police said adding that agitated mobs damaged vehicle and ransacked shopsprompting police to fire in the air and lobb tear gas shells to gain control.
