2nd phase polling begins in Manipur 29 electorates

Imphal: Polling for the second phase of the Manipur Assemblyelections in 29 constituencies, spread over three districts of Imphal East,Imphal West and Bishenpur, began this morning amidst tight security.

A total of 7.39 lakh voters, including 3.8 lakh women, would decide the fate offormer Union Sports Minister and senior Manipur Peoples Party leader Th.Chaoba, former Chief Minister R K Dorendra Singh and MPP President LChandramani, besides others in the fray.

Official sources said adequate security arrangements have been made at all the863 polling stations.

Altogether 198 polling stations have been placed under the hyper sensitivecategory and 395 under sensitive category, the sources said. Polling beagan at7:00 am and will come to an end at 3:30 pm.

The first phase of polling was held in 19 Assembly constituencies on February 8and the third and final phase would be held in 12 seats on February 23.

Manipur has 60 Assembly seats. Counting of votes would be taken up on February27.
