New Delhi: Taking atough stand, the government today slapped a show cause notice on broadcasterNimbus for not sharing with Doordarshan the live telecast of two India-Sri Lankaone-dayers - a violation which could lead to suspension of its licence or fineupto Rs one crore.
The notice comes a day ahead of hearing in the Delhi High Court where TheSports Broadcasting Signals (Mandatory Sharing with Prasar Bharti) Ordinance 2007stands challanged by the Nimbus Communications.
The hearing is at final stage as both, Prasar Bharti and Nimbus, have almostfinished their submissions to a divison bench headed by Justice Vikramjit Sen.
"We have asked them to show cause why action may not be taken against themunder section 3 and 4 of the ordinance. They have to reply by February 15,tomorrow," a senior official with the Ministry of Information andBroadcasting said.
Under the new ordinance a private broadcaster is obliged to share the livetelecast of the matches a general public interest, failing which it may loselicence and may face fine upto Rs one crore.
