Srinagar: Suspected militants ambushed an Army vehicle in Palhalan area of north Kashmir's Baramulla district sunday evening, wounding four soldiers, a military spokesman said.

A militant was also wounded in the return fire, he added. The spokesman said militants ambushed the Army vehicle at Palhalan market in Pattan area of Baramulla district at about 1900 hrs sunday evening. The fire was returned and in the ensuing gun-battle, four soldiers and a militant were wounded, he added. However, villagers later alleged that the injured, branded as a militant, was actually a civilian. They identified him as 20-year-old Nazir Ahmed Sofi.

A massive operation has been launched to nab the militants.
