Chahal pleads for transfer of cases to CBI

Chandigarh: "If you want to see me alive, then transfer all my cases to CBI or any other agency outside Punjab," a sobbing B I S Chahal, media advisor to former Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh pleaded before the Punjab and Haryana High court today.

Chahal, who is facing four different cases, when produced before Justice Uma Nath Singh in the court room, pleaded "I am not seeking any relief. Mai Baap (my great grand father). It is requested that my cases be handed over to CBI or any other agency outside Punjab." Sporting a red turban and wearing a checked shirt, a visibly shaken and sobbing Chahal told the judge "I am very sad. I am requesting you with folded hands."

Cautioning the prosecution, the judge observed that "if police tortures Chahal, then it is violation of court orders. I will not spare you," the judge told the team of police officials present in the court.

Chahal was produced in the court on its directions after he charged the Punjab police with torturing him in custody in connection with the multi-crore Ludhiana City Centre scam in which the media advisor is one of the accused.

Fixing August six as the next date of hearing in the case, the judge directed police to produce Chahal before a board of experts in All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) at New Delhi to examine whether he was given "electric shocks on his body, including private parts, by police in custody."
