Patna: Six more people died in Bihar, taking the toll in the current spell of floods to 545 even as there was a marked improvement in the overall situation with major rivers receding. The state disaster management control room sources said four people lost their lives when a boat sank in flood waters of river Bagmati and Kreh in Samastipur district last evening, while two more deaths were reported from flood-hit Sitamarhi and another from east Champaran.
Darbhanga recorded the largest number of deaths (95) followed by Samastipur (88), east Champaran (79), Khagaria (67), Muzaffarpur (48), Sitamarhi (30), Katihar (27) and Begusarai (21), the sources said. Deaths were also reported from Saharsa (18), Bhagalpur (15), Madhubani (15), Madhepura (11), Vaishali (9), west Champaran (7), Gopalganj (4), Nalanda (10) and Supaul (1), the sources said.
All the major rivers were receding in the absence of rains in the catchment areas, central water commission sources said. Although Bagmati, Burhi Gandak and Kosi were receding, they were still flowing above the danger danger at some points, the sources said.
