Islamabad: Former Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif will end his exile and return home on September 10, a senior leader of his party said today.
"A two-day meeting of the senior leaders of Pakistan Muslim League (N) in London has decided that Nawaz Sharif will return to Pakistan on September 10," Saad Rafiq, a PML-N leader said. Sharif, an arch-rival of President Pervez Musharraf, was ousted in a bloodless coup eight years ago and sent to exile to Saudi Arabia in 2000. He currently lives in London.
The Pakistan Supreme Court ruled last week that Sharif can return from exile and can also take part in parliamentary elections due towards the end of this year. Rafiq, who attended the meeting in London, told Pakistani TV channels over phone that Sharif along with his brother Shahbaz Sharif, former Chief Minister of Punjab province, will land in Islamabad.
