New Delhi: With India's wide experience in counter-terrorism combat, its special forces and an IAF contingent have been invited to join war games with Russian forces from September 11.
In the 10-day combined exercises, Indian and Russian special air-borne forces will carry out anti-terrorist strikes at the elite Russian first air-borne division located at Pskov near St Petersburg. The IAF contingent in the exercises would comprise an IL-76 Medium Lift Transport aircraft and 29 Air Warriors led by Group Captain SRK Nair who would carry out paradrop of personnel and practice free-fall technique of parajumping with highly-experienced Russian paratroopers.
"The exercise is very important for the IAF as it would give a chance to our air warriors to familiarise with Russian anti-terrorism doctrine", an IAF spokesman said here.
The exercises are codenamed Indra-2007 and are the second in the series between the two countries. Russian troops had come here in 2005 to participate in joint-war games in the Thar desert.
