Bangalore: Praveen Shintre, an alleged serial killer, was shot dead by police at his residence in Belgaum hours after his arrest last night. Shintre, wanted in 38 criminal cases, including several murders and two rapes, was arrested by a special police team in Udupi and was brought to Belgaum, police said today. When the accused was taken to his rented accommodation last night, he took out a gun and opened fire at the accompanying police personnel, they said. Police said that inspector Nagaraj, who escaped the shot, retaliated by opening fire, killing Shintre on the spot.
