Mumbai: It seems that the 22 years old alliance between Sena and BJP is taking its last breath. In order to make the last effort, Uddhav Thackeray, executive president of the Shiv Sena, will be making a last-ditch effort to save the alliance with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Maharashtra, but it could well be in vain. The state unit of the BJP has already taken a decision that it would not like to continue the alliance.
Thackeray has sought a meeting with Lal Krishna Advani to discuss the future of the alliance. The meeting is also likely to be attended by BJP president Rajnath Singh, party general secretary Gopinath Munde, and the party’s state unit president Nitin Gadkari. From the Sena side, there will be former chief minister and former Lok Sabha speaker Manohar Joshi and Sanjay Raut.
In fact, the meeting was scheduled to be held one week ago but with Uddhav developing a ‘backache,’ it was rescheduled, a senior BJP leader said. The venue of the meeting will be Advani’s official residence in New Delhi but the date is yet to be finalised. The meeting will take place during Uddhav’s visit to Delhi. The Sena leader is heading a delegation which will meet PM Manmohan Singh to demand rejection of the Sachar Committee recommendations. The committee was constituted to study issues concerning minorities in general and Muslims in particular. “The meeting with Advani will be timed with Uddhavji’s meeting with the PM,” confirmed a highly-placed source in the Shiv Sena.
