Rameswaram : One person has been arrested for helping three Sri Lankans nationals to flee in a boat with two bags which was suspected to contain medicine and other essential commodities, police said.

Police said the fishermen in Pamban area had seen the high speed plastic boat waiting with three persons near here last night. They had seen one Muniasamy handing over two huge plastic bags to the Sri Lankans. They had immediately informed the Q-branch police who rushed to the spot.

However, the three managed to escape, while Muniasamy jumped into the sea and was arrested. Muniasamy told the police that he did not know the bags contents.

Further investigation is on. Chasing the boat was not possible as it was going at a good speed, and the Q-branch could not match it, an official said.
