New Delhi: In a bid to encourage students below poverty line (BPL), the Planning Commission is working on a proposal to facilitate financial incentive to them in form of 'skill development vouchers' of Rs 7,500 per year. The decision came with a view to help them pursue vocational education and improve job prospects.
Adding more to it, the Plan panel sources said that out of the Rs 7,500 voucher, a BPL student would be allowed to spend Rs 6,000 on tuition fees and Rs 1,500 on personal expenses. The proposal would form a part of the National Skill Development Mission (NSDM) being prepared by the Commission, they added. The Commission, sources said, would make a formal presentation on NSDM to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh soon.
