UN appoints Pak army official as DPKO adviser

United Nations: Lieutenant-General Ahmad Shuja Pasha of Pakistan has been appointed as the new military adviser to the United Nations Department of Peacekeeping Operations (DPKO).

Pasha replaced General Per Arne Five of Norway. In his capacity as the Director-General of Military Operations at the Central Headquarters of the Pakistani Army, Pasha was responsible for overall command of all peacekeeping deployments in the country. Earlier, from 2001-2002,he had served as a Contingent and Sector Commander with UNAMSIL (United Nations Mission in Sierra Leone), handling disarmament, demobilisation and reintegration of former rebel groups.
