BJP: Raj dharma or friendship dharma not violated

Bangalore: Saying the BJP had not "violated Raj Dharma or friendship Dharma", Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa today charged coalition partner JD(S) with "betraying" the country.

"We have not violated the Raj Dharma or friendship dharma. Not even crossed the Lakshman rekha. But the JD(S) leadership betrayed the people of this country", Yediyurappa said here. "I kept my words of stepping down from Deputy Chief Minister post on October two. Our culture is not that of betrayal", Yediyurappa told the press on his return from Delhi where his party high command decided to withdraw support to Kumaraswamy government tomorrow.

Yediyurappa, however, thanked Kumaraswamy and JD(S) for its support to the coalition government in the last 20 months. "I sympathise with Kumaraswamy. He is a young man. But his party's decision has masked his future," he said in an obvious reference to Kumaraswamy changing the decision on power transfer.

He said "in a way it is a very satisfying day for me for two reasons ... firstly our national leadership has given permission to withdraw support to JD(S) government and I stood by my promise of not remaining in the Deputy Chief Minister post after October two".

Yediyurappa has submitted his resignation to the chief minister. BJP National General Secretary Anantkumar said "we will ask people to teach lessons to promise breakers. I am confident that people will vote us to power," he said. Yediyurappa said, "in case we are voted to power, we will make Karnataka a model state".
