Mumbai: Not many actors can claim to have worked in two National Award winning films (‘Mr and Mrs Iyer’, ‘Page 3’), win several critics’ awards and also have two big Yash Raj films as their next releases (‘Laaga Chunari Mein Daag’ and ‘Aaja Nach Le’). But of course, Konkona Sen Sharma isn’t your average actor.
She started in a very unconventional role as the shy Tamil homemaker in ‘Mr and Mrs Iyer’, who discovers love on journey, but Konkona seems equally at ease shooting in exotic locales and being a Yash Raj heroine.
“I have never made a conscious decision to straddle both worlds. I don’t look at movies that way. I have only concentrated on doing roles that are attractive to me. No film is art or commercial for me,” she says.
Inspite of having her next two releases belonging to the Yash Raj banner, Konkona says she prefers working with her mother and renowned director Aparna Sen any day.
“Not just Yash Raj, even if there’s a choice to be made between a Mira Nair film and my mother’s, with regards to the availability of dates, I’d opt for my mother’s film. I love working with her. The kind of launch she gave me in ‘Mr and Mrs Iyer’, no one would have been able to. She’s my all-time favourite director,” she says.
