BJP, Cong welcome Amarmani verdict
Wednesday, October 24, 2007 13:36 [IST]

Lucknow: BJP and Congress in Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday welcomed a Dehradun court's decision to sentence Samajwadi Party MLA Amarmani Tripathi and his wife to life imprisonment in poetess Madhumita Shukla murder case.

Welcoming the decision, former BJP state president Keshari Nath Tripathi said the court's ruling has sent a message that no one is above law.

CLP leader Pramod Tiwari also welcomed the decision and recalled that Amarmani's involvement was found in the case in 2003 when he was a minister in the BJP government.

Expressing concern over criminalisation of politics, Tiwari claimed that except Congress, all other political parties were promoting criminals which was not a good trend and should be checked.

Amarmani is a sitting MLA of Samajwadi Party from Luxmipur constituency.

A special court in Dehradun on Wednesday sentenced Amarmani and his wife Madhumani in the poetess murder case.
