54 children escape from Patna remand home
Wednesday, October 24, 2007 17:30 [IST]

Patna: Fifty-four delinquent children have escaped in batches since Friday from a remand home here, a top police official said today.

While 10 of them escaped on Friday, five fled on Monday and the rest yesterday. They placed one cot on top of another and then a ladder to scale the wall of the remand home, Deputy Superintendent of Police Suresh Choudhary told PTI.

The incident came to notice only yesterday when a head count revealed that 54 were missing, he said adding, "We should have been informed about the matter on Friday."

The children were facing charges varying from murder, abduction, robbery and stabbing.

He said the juveniles, who escaped yesterday, beat up two police guards outside the remand home while fleeing. The injured guards were admitted to the Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) and an FIR was registered today, the official said.
