Govt trying best to control Blueline: Dikshit
Sunday, October 28, 2007 15:22 [IST]

New Delhi: Apparently exasperated by the continuing killing spree of blueline buses in the capital, Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit today said the government was doing everything possible to erase the menace but asked citizens to be more careful and vigilant.

"I just don't know what to do because who is right, who is wrong, it is difficult to make out," Dikshit told a news channel, a day after a nine-year-old boy became the 100th victim of a blueline bus. "We are meeting with bus operators. We had many meeting with the Police. People also have to be careful. Everybody has to be vigilant. We as a government will do whatever we can," she added.

Tushar, a Class IV student of Glory Public School in Sarita Vihar, was returning home on a motorcycle driven by his neighbour Ajay when a blueline bus hit them from behind at in Badarpur area. The government had said it would need one more year to take out the "killer buses" from service due to the transport requirements of the capital.

The government had ordered a crackdown on the buses in July after a series of accidents in the first week of July and ordered owners of about 4,500 buses to get the vehicles certified. Last year, Bluelines claimed 100 lives. There were about 500 fatal accidents in the past three-four years.
