13 militants killed in Army-LTTE clash

Colombo: At least 13 LTTE rebels have been killed in a series of clashes with security forces in Sri Lanka s embattled north, officials said here today.

Two LTTE bunkers were destroyed and two tiger rebels killed today in pre-emptive strikes by troops at the Nagarkovil Forward Defence Lines in northern Jaffna, the Army said quoting ground sources. It said no damages were caused to Lankan troops.

At Muhamalai forward defence lines in Jaffna, the Army destroyed four LTTE bunkers, killing at least eight tiger rebels during the attack yesterday the ministry said.

During the counter attacks, a soldier was injured and air lifted to the military base hospital at Palali. On observing an LTTE attempt to breach forward defences at Karampikulam in Wanni FDLs, yesterday, troops launched artillery attacks causing heavy damages to LTTE, security sources said.

Intercepted LTTE communication later revealed that three militants were killed during the confrontation, the Army said quoting defence sources.
