London: It seems that finally the Portuguese Police are moving back towards the possibility that missing British toddler Madeleine McCann was abducted from her parents holiday apartment six months back.
In a bid to reconstruct what happened on the night of Madeleine's disappearance, a police team yesterday re-enacted a possible abduction as claimed by her parents Gerry and Kate McCann, the media reported here today.
They spent almost three hours at the apartment where Madeleine was left sleeping with two-year-old twins Sean and Amelie on May three and focused on windows and patio doors where an abductor could have gained entry, unnamed sources were quoted as saying.
"Kate and Gerry are very encouraged. They have always insisted Madeleine was taken and want the police to concentrate on finding her. This is a positive step towards that," a friend of the McCanns said.
The police's latest action came days after the McCanns released a sketch of an "abductor" who was spotted hurrying away with a child from their holiday apartment in Portugal by one of their friends.
The picture of the 35-year-old suspect with black hair curling round his collar and carrying a kid in pyjamas was drawn by a FBI-trained British forensic artist, hired by Gerry and Kate McCann, from the eyewitness account of Jane Tanner. "We hope this will go a long way to proving the independent eyewitness account that she was taken by someone and that the police's focus on Kate and Gerry as potential suspects is wrong," McCanns Spokesman Clarence Mitchell had said immediately after the release.
