Sharif's wife undergoes knee surgery at Fortis
Tuesday, October 30, 2007 18:29 [IST]

New Delhi: Exiled former Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif's wife Kulsoom today underwent knee surgery at Fortis hospital here.

The knee replacement surgery was performed by Dr Ashok Rajgopal on 56-year-old Kulsoom who was admitted on Sunday.

Kulsoom has stood firmly behind Nawaz Sharif, who was deposed by Pervez Musharraf, then Army chief, in October 1999. Sharif alongwith his family was sent to Saudi Arabia under an understanding he reached with Musharraf.

When contacted Fortis Chairman Dr Shavinder Mohan Singh said, "patient information is confidential and we do not comment on it".

However, hospital sources said that the operation was carried out successfully today and she was recuperating. Kulsoom had not accompanied Sharif when he returned to Pakistan last month. However, Sharif was bundled out from the airport back to Saudi Arabia within hours.
