Chargesheet on fake sting operation case filed
Tuesday, October 30, 2007 19:40 [IST]

New Delhi: The Delhi Police today filed a chargesheet against terminated Live India reporter Prakash Singh and his associate Virender Arora in the fake sting operation case, in which they allegedly maligned a school teacher Uma Khurana.

Filing the chargesheet in the court of Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (ACMM) Alok Agarwal, the crime branch alleged that Singh in criminal conspiracy with Arora tried to settle their personal scores through the sting operation.

The charges against Singh and Arora were framed under several sections of IPC, including 420 (cheating), 468 (forgery for the purpose of cheating), 471 (using forged documents) and 120 B (criminal conspiracy).

The court will hear the case tomorrow when their judicial custody expires. The airing of the sting operation in Live India channel purportedly showing Khurana as supplying students for prostitution has led to violence in Central Delhi in August.

Khurana was arrested on the basis of the sting operation and was suspended from service by the Delhi government but investigations revealed that the the expose was "fabricated" to implicate the teacher.
