BJP not to disrupt winter session of parliament
Wednesday, October 31, 2007 20:54 [IST]

Kanpur: The BJP today said it would not stall the proceedings of the forthcoming winter session of parliament as it was keen on the house discussing the Indo-US civil nuclear deal at length.

"BJP wants a detailed discussion on the Indo-US civil nuclear deal during the winter session so that people could know how such an important international deal was being executed and on what conditions", leader of the opposition in the Lok Sabha L K Advani told reporters here today. BJP wants the UPA to debate the nuclear deal in detail in Parliament and also the presentation of Parliament's view on the issue in the end, Advani said after attending a children's programme here.

The government is not constitutionallly bound to accept the opinion of the parliament on the deal but a debate on it is important to create awareness about how the government was going about it, the BJP stawart said. Earlier addressing school children Advani said the future of the country did not only depend on the economic policies of the government but also on the state of basic health and education facilities. The programme was also attended by Pradesh BJP President Ramapati Ram Tripathi and former MLAs Satyadev Pachauri, Tanvir Haider Usmani and Rakesh Sachan among others.
