New Delhi:Voicing concern over the "growing violence" against journalists, several media organisations today condemned the attack on scribes in Patna yesterday.
Condemning incident where an TV reporters and a cameraman were reportedly assaulted and kept in confinement by Janata Dal (United) MLA Anant Kumar Singh, the National Union of Journalists and Delhi Journalists Association have appealed to the party president to "take exemplary action" against him.
A joint delegation of NUJ and DJA submitted a memorandum to JD(U) chief Sharad Yadav stating the Patna incident was "another disgusting and horrendous example of criminalisation of politics."
News Broadcasters Association said, "journalists and media workers provide a service that is essential for any democratic society." It welcomed the swift action taken by Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar for ensuring the arrest of the "culprits" and showing that no individuals are beyond the law of the land.
It said the media played an indispensable role in helping citizens hold open debates, make informed decisions and expose the "misdeeds of the powerful".
