Bangalore: As BJP and JD(S) paraded Karnataka MLAs before President Pratibha Patil, Vatal Nagaraj of Vatal Paksha today said that any decision allowing the combine to form a government would be challenged in the Supreme Court as a petition seeking disqualification of 40 JD(S) legislators was pending before the Assembly Speaker.
The BJP-JD(S) should not be given an opportunity to form the government as the disqualification petition filed by him and three others before State Assembly Speaker Krishna was still pending, Nagaraj told a press conference here.
In the event of the Speaker rejecting the petition, the verdict would also be challenged in the apex court, he said. G V Sriramareddy (CPM), S Rajendran (RPI) and K Jayaprakash Hegde (Ind), who are the other petitioners, also said they would take the issue to the Supreme Court if the BJP-led coalition assumed office.
Their petition, filed before the Speaker after the JDS MLAs joined hands with the BJP and formed the government in February last, is coming up for hearing on November 17.
