New Delhi: The decks are being cleared for the formation of the BJP- JD(S) government in Karnataka.
Governor Rameshwar Thakur met and briefed home minister Shivraj Patil on Tuesday about the political developments in the state where BJP-JD(S) has staked claim to form a government.
This was also the day when the BJP- JD(S) combine demonstrated its numbers by parading 125 MLA’s before President Pratibha Patil.
According to sources, the governor in his report has acknowledged that the BJP-JD(S) combine does have the numbers, but raised questions about the stability of the arrangement.
“I have submitted my final report after consulting legal opinion. Now it is up to the President to decide,” Thakur told DNA.
Significantly, the Congress too appeared resigned to the possibility of the BJP-JD(S) being allowed to come to power.
Prithviraj Chauhan, the AICC general secretary in charge of Karnataka, sought to draw a distinction between the party’s demand for early elections and the role that the government and the center were supposed to play.
“As a party we are making a political demand, the Center and the governor will do what is constitutionally correct,” he told the media.
