Rizwanur's mother invites Priyanka home
Wednesday, November 07, 2007 18:26 [IST]

Kolkata: After receiving a letter from Rizwanur Rehman's widow Priyanka asking for return of her personal belongings as she did not wish to live with the Rehman's, her mother-in-law wrote back asking her to collect them herself.

"I have always considered you to be my daughter-in-law and so there was no need for the lawyer's letter to collect your valuables. You could have spoken to me or have written to me directly," Rizwanur's mother Kiswar Jehan said referring to letter by Priyanka, the daughter of industrialist Ashok Todi. "All the things you have asked are your personal belongings and I cannot hand them over to an unknown person. Come and take your things," Kiswar said in her reply.

In a long letter, Kiswar expressed pain over Priyanka's indifference towards the Rehmans after the death of Rizwanur. Rizwanur's brother Ruqbanur said Kiswer's reply was sent by post and not through a lawyer as Priyanka had done. "My mother wrote the letter personally," he said.

The death of Rizwanur, a computer graphics teacher who had married Priyanka on August 31 against her family's wishes, sparked a national outcry as the couple had been allegedly pressurised by senior Kolkata police officials to part ways.

Priyanka returned to her parents on September 8 and Rizwanur was found dead on September 21 near railway tracks near Dum Dum.
