Bhopal: The CPI-M today said the UPA government at the Centre will face no threat if the operationalisation of Indo-US nuclear deal remains suspended.

External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee has given an assurance that no step would be taken towards finalisation of the deal till talks with the Left parties for a consensus on the issue is on, CPI-M Politbureau member M K Pandhe told reporters here.

According to Pandhe, there is no threat to the UPA till the deal remains suspended. Leaders and MPs of Congress and constituents of the UPA are also not in favour of a mid-term poll and would like the government to complete its five-year term. However, the exact stand of Congress would become clear during the UPA-Left meeting on the deal scheduled on November 16.

The Left parties, providing crucial outside support to the Manmohan Singh Government, have adopted a firm stand - that the agreement adversely affects India s interests and it should remain suspended, the CPM leader asserted.

Voicing concern over soaring prices, Pandhe, a prominent trade union leader, said it was a result of the UPA government failing to implement the common minimum pragramme.

On the reported statement of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh about problems faced by a coalition government, he said "it is against the dignity of coalition politics. It (coalition government) is our destiny today as no single party would be able to form the government on its own in near future."
