New Delhi: Indian Council for Child Welfare (ICCW) today announced the names of 22 children who have been selected for the National Bravery Awards 2007.
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh would give away the awards on eve of the Republic Day to the winners, including four girls. Four awards will be given posthumously, ICCW President Gita Siddhant said in a press statement.
The coveted Bharat award would be conferred on two children from Haryana- Babita, 17 and Amarjeet, 15,who had saved their school mates from drowning when their school bus fell into Yamuna canal. A six-year-old boy from Chandigarh Master Yuktarth Shrivastava, who saved his sister from stray dogs, has been selected for prestigious Sanjay Chopra Award.
The Geeta Chopra Award will be given posthumously to 14-year-old girl from Mizoram Km Lalrempuii, who had fought vehemently against assailants and lost her life in the process. Master Raipalli Vamsi, 12,of Andhra Pradesh, Master Boney Singh, 16,of Manipur and Late Amol Aghi, 15,of Haryana have been selected for Bapu Gayadhani Awards.
Vamsi saved five girls from drowning in Nagavalli river. Singh rescued two boys from drowning, while Aghi lost his life in a fight with robbers.
The other recipients are: Raveendra Haldar, Ravi Kumar Jharia, Awadesh Kumar Jharia, Manas Nishad (all from Chandigarh), Vishnu C S and Bijin Babu (Kerala), Kavvampalli Rajkumar and Pinjari Chinigi Sab (Andhra Pradesh), Meher Legha (Delhi), Ankit Rai, Late Abhishake and Late Suraj (Haryana), Subhash Kumar (Uttar Pradesh), Congress Kanwar (Rajasthan) and Sunil Kumar P N (Karnataka).
