Srinagar: Singing Vande Mataram by school students has created an unwanted controversy in Jammu & Kashmir. Students had assembled to mark the celebrations of Children’s Day. State chief minister Gulab Nabi Azad was present for the function.
Muslims clerics have condemned rendition of Vande Mataram and said singing Vande Mataram is against basic tenets of Islam. They believe that Vande Mataram depicts India as Hindu Goddess Durga.
