Bangalore: Communication ability will have a greater weightage in the final selection to the prestigious Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore (IIM-B), sources said.
Terming reports in a section of media that IIM-B had included English in its admission process this time as incorrect, sources said that there has always been a language component in CAT as well, just like the analytical ability component.
"Though the CAT scores form an important component of the selection process, the other components like group discussion and interviews are also of importance while making the selection," sources said.
IIM-B Chairperson, Admission, Subasish Gupta said, "this year what has changed is that earlier a candidate following a group discussion had to write a summary and the weightage given to the summary was 7.5 points. Now this has increased to 10 points. Five points will go towards content of the summary and five for the grammatical skills."
"We are looking at how candidates behave in a group setting as well. He or she must be able to both lead a team as well as be a member of the team," sources asserted.
Gupta said that the group discussions and interviews are tools to assess a candidate s clarity on a subject, as well as his or her presentation skills and it also includes the ability to communicate.
