Dubai: The bilateral Investment Promotion and Protection Agreement between India and Bahrain would come into force next month. This was agreed at the fourth meeting of the India-Bahrain Joint Committee on Economic and Technical Cooperation (JCETC) which ended in Bahrain today. The Indian delegation was led by Minister of State for External Affairs E Ahamed while the Bahraini side was led by Nizar Al Baharna, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs.
Ahamed, in his opening address, said the economies of both India and Bahrain were growing rapidly and that the upgrading of JCETC to the Ministerial level from official level was an indication of importance that the two sides attached to enhancing economic and technical cooperation. He recalled the landmark visit of HH Sheikh Khalifa bin Salman al Khalifa, Prime Minister of Kingdom of Bahrain and HH Sheikh Salman bin Hamad bin Al Khalifa, Crown Prince of Kingdom of Bahrain to India in January, 2004 and March, 2007 respectively.
Al Baharna said the meeting of the Committee presented a great opportunity for both countries to work together and discussed a range of issues of mutual interest, to follow up on existing agreements and MOUs, as well as to explore ways in which both Bahrain and India could benefit. He indicated that Bahraini Government was keen to develop ties with India in finance, banking, civil aviation and high technology.
