India offers to help cyclone-hit Bangladesh

New Delhi: India today offered its assistance to cyclone-hit Bangladesh where the calamity left over 2,000 people dead.

"India stands ready to assist in whatever way to help in the relief process," Prime Minister Manmohan Singh said in a letter to Chief Adviser of Bangladesh Fakhruddin Ahmed.

The Prime Minister also conveyed the heartfelt condolences of the people of India to the people of Bangladesh for the loss of lives caused by the hurricane, PM's Media Adviser Sanjaya Baru said in a statement. He also expressed his deepest sympathies to the members of the bereaved families, Baru added.

Over 2,000 people have been killed in the cyclone.
