Nandigram: The six-member team of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), now visiting Nandigram, is likely to continue its mission here for some time to make a detailed assessment of the situation in the strife-torn area.
"We are recording statements of the villagers and the process is still on. It is too early to say when it is likely to end," leader of the team, Special Superintendent of Police S P Singh, said.
The team today visited Gangra, Jalpai and Sonachura areas of Nandigram and spoke to the villagers and recorded their statements. The team would also verify complaints made earlier by locals, Singh said.
Yesterday, the NHRC team visited Satengabari, Gokulnagar and Tekhali, the worst-affected areas in the recapture of Nandigram by the CPI(M) and spoke to the villagers.
Singh also heard the version of CPI(M) Zonal Committee local leader Ashok Bera of the events.
Another SSP Mamta Singh of the team met DIG (Operations) CRPF Alok Raj and discussed the overall situation.
S P Singh and two other members of the team interviewed police officers at the Nandigram police station and went through the records over the past one year, including FIRs and general diaries.
Mamta Singh went to the Nandigram Block Hospital and spoke to those injured in the violence during the recapture. She also met Chief Medical Officer Health K Maity.
