New Delhi: The Nandigram issue today rocked Parliament with angry NDA members, especially those from BJP, raising the matter vociferously amidst stiff opposition from CPI-M forcing adjournment of both Houses for the day.
Hundreds of people have been killed in Nandigram area of the Left-ruled West Bengal, BJP Deputy Leader V K Malhotra said in the Lok Sabha amid noisy scenes as the entire NDA supported him.
However, CPI(M) Politburo member Sitaram Yechury said Nandigram issue cannot be discussed in Parliament as it was related to law and order which is a state subject.
"As law and order is in the state-list, Nandigram issue cannot be discussed in Parliament. It will set a wrong precedent. But we are ready for a discussion in the context of Maoism, terrorism and SEZ," Yechury told reporters. "Nobody cared" about those people who were disallowed to comeback to Nandigram. For 11 months, people were not allowed to go to their homes in Nandigram. If they want to go home, is it a crime, he added.
Asked about West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharya justifying the violence in Nandigram, Yechury refused to comment saying, "ask him."
The House cannot function unless Nandigram issue was taken up, warned Malhotra.
With Opposition members unrelenting, Question Hour also went for a toss in both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha.
Slogan-shouting BJP and other NDA members, especially those belonging to Trinamool Congress, repeatedly trooped into the well of the Rajya Sabha waving a banner.
Earlier, both Houses were adjourned as soon as they met for the day after repeated pleas for normalcy by Presiding officers went unheeded.
