New Delhi: The Union Cabinet met tonight and considered the developments in Karnataka in the wake of Governor Rameshwar Thakur's recommendation to the Centre for President's rule in the state following the collapse of the BJP government.

After an hour-long meeting presided by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Law Minister H R Bhardwaj told reporters that the deliberations were inconclusive and the cabinet would meet again at 8 am tomorrow.

Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil is understood to have briefed the meeting on the Karnataka developments and the Governor's report and the recommendation. The urgent cabinet meeting took place late in the evening as the Prime Minister is leaving for Singapore tomorrow morning to attend the East Asian and ASEAN summits there. Singh is scheduled to depart at 9 am.
