Vadodara: The report of the Detection of Crime Branch (DCB) of police on non-traceability of best Bakery case prime witnesses Zaheera Sheikh's mother Mehrunnisa and sister Sahira has been submitted to the special court in Mumbai, Police said.

The judge of the court was on leave when this report was submitted to the court in Mumbai, police said. Further action in this regard will depend upon court's order, they added.

It is learnt that police have given details of their efforts in locating both Mehrunnisa and her daughter Sahera in this report. Police teams were sent to Kalol in neighbouring Panchmahal district, Mumbai and Uttar Pradesh for locating them. Every effort was made to search both of them, it was stated in the report.

Mehrunnisa and Zahera were convicted by a special court in Mumbai last year for perjury in the famous Best Bakery case in which several persons were burnt alive in the wake of Godhra riots of 2002 and Vishwa Hindu Parishad had given a bandh call on March 1,2002.

Seventeen accused, arrested in connection with this case, have already been convicted by the special court and they have been serving their sentences in the jail.
