Sentencing in Uphaar case today

New Delhi: A court here today will pronounce the quantum of punishment to 12 convicts in the Uphaar case including the Ansal brothers. Yesterday, the Patiala House Court had found all the 12 accused guilty in the case. The Uphaar tragedy had claimed 59 lives in 1997.

However, the theatre owners Sushil and Gopal Ansal have decided to approach the higher court to appeal against the verdict.

The chargesheet was filed in this case by CBI on November 15, 1997. Earlier, the verdict was adjourned till October 22.

Originally, the CBI had chargesheeted around 16 people and examined about 115 witnesses in this case.
